The History of Tum-A-Lum Lumber Company

A Tradition of Service

Delivering quality products and service.

The Company was founded in 1906 by J. M. Crawford.  The name Tum-A-Lum is a Umatilla Indian phrase for "spreading waters" and reflected the annual run-off from the Blue Mountains in the Walla Walla basin.

The first yard was located in Touchet, Washington, three years after J.M. bought out a partner in a Walla Walla millwork shop.  In 1910, Tum-A-Lum opened its second yard at the present Redmond, Oregon location.

J.M. turned the company over to his two sons in 1921.   C. Howard Crawford and Harold C. Crawford managed the company through the depression years and WWII giving day to day operating control to C. Howard's son in 1950.  John Howard Crawford brought the company into the modern age yielding control to his son Jim Crawford who is the fourth generation President and CEO.
